ReplyDeleteNo Problem! Everybody Should Be Informed!
ReplyDeleteWell over my head in techy knowledge but following the excellent step by step guide enabled me to reset my privacy settings. Thanks.
ReplyDeletethe macromedia part went great, but the windows part will now allow me to save over hosts in Win7.
ReplyDeleteGetting Access Denied when I insert the file and the bottom of the list in step 2. I inserted the line first without the "#" sign and got the error "You do not have permission contact the administrator BS (I do) it's my computer , only user on file. Thinking maybe the # sign and a space needed to be added, I added as follows: "# 127.0.0.1 iesnare.com www.iesnare.com mpsnare.iesnare.com ci-mpsnare.iovation.com" This time when I tried to save the file it said Access Denied. It wasn't found in my Settings Manger at all. I realize I'm forcing those site request to point to my local machine so nothing goes out, but not sure why I can't add the change and then I'm denied. New machine with Windows 7. Oh, and I opened in Notepad and I did not try to save it as Text, but as a replacement of the File by selecting all file types when saving!
ReplyDeleteAnonymous inserting the # sign before it renders it useless your pc will now recognise that line as a comment and not action it.
ReplyDeleteTry checking first of all you have admin rights, by right-clicking the host file and selecting properties - Security. ensure you have full permissions
read the directions carefully.. you need to open as administrator! of course you're going to get access denied!
ReplyDeleteWell, either all my privacy programs are set correctly or ??
ReplyDeleteWhen I go to Macromedia I get Adobe Flash, good there.
All I get in my windows xp system from running %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc, is hosts files from spybot
doing the ping iesnare, I get request timed out answers. packets sent = 4, received = 0, lost =4 (100%)
I don't know if this is good or bad!
So far, my only 'detention' by zyngna was for receiving gifts (2 days) and blocked from posting on your site for 2 days via bookmarklet.
Dear zynga.
ReplyDeletei really not understand about how to all command up page.. as i know that i just two week active after almost more than a year not active playing mafia and get addicted again :) thank you Zynga for Mafia War game.
remember to set those timer settings to a reasonable amount of time
ReplyDeletehow to set?
mac instructions pleeeeease
ReplyDeleteAll the rumors are true this time!
ReplyDeleteBlah Blah BLah.
Zynga has started performing system scans and issuing temporary bans (1 week) on auto-players and some script users! Those accounts banned will then be under scrutiny when the ban has been lifted, so it's no way a good thing! It has been reported by SEVERAL mafia members that they have received this ban for "having an advantage" over other players and violating T.O.S. Now it technically isn't against the T.O.S. but their claim is that if everybody isn't using it that you have a leg up over other players and they have a fair use clause.. blah blah blah.. wah wah wah!
This has always been in place. Not something new. Zynga's fraud depeartment constantly does server side scans to look for abnormal behaviour. For example, Acccounts that have activity 24/7 at a rate of 0 to 1 sec or faster between each. My stance has always been use in moderation. A timer of 1 to 2 and running Heavy usage Bmlets in Spurts is always better. So the Brawlers, Repeat Jobs, Robbers, etc. Use with care. I can say form experience when first created the Marketplace FC buyer, I had not put in delays, and got several warning messages from Zynga. Do not ignore these to often. If you get one take a break and relax and refresh your windows to make sure a script has not gone amok on you.
So what exactly does this mean for you? Well, nothing really! The majority of all scripts have a timer built in so you can designate how fast it goes through its processes, so as long as you don't have it set to 0-0 you should be ok.. Just think about it, they can't tell the difference between your computer clicking a link and you personally clicking on one. So just make sure you put at least 2-3 seconds in between every action and you'll be fine.
I could not agree more. Be cautious. However, in the words of Douglass Adams, author of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, "Don't PANIC".
Now there is some "tracking software" installed for anybody that plays their games, its in your temporary files, your cache, and flash has its own storage and settings profile so there is some concern in that department. But there are some steps you can take to protect yourself and I have also done this myself just to be on the safe side.
The steps below this section are OK, but the idea that you have to modify your host file is unnecessary. I run a Mac with OSX and never have performed this step. The thing to remember is not all cookies are evil, as is the vibe often sent throughout the community. Even Bmlets use them to save data to prevent users from having to retype the same information over and over. So SPOCK-ON.
I created a "new" administrator account in Win7 and it still is rejecting Hosts save. So now I have 2 accounts ... both with administrator permissions and neither will allow this save. How does one activate the administrator that the system will recognize as one?
ReplyDeleteso if i spam click attacking someone, it's fair is it. )XD how can zynga differentiate between spam click and bot and auto and normal click? boo @ zynga
ReplyDeleteI Use Mozilla & Do Not know Anything About All the Tech Stuff Above.People on Face Book have been Creating Tiny URL's & I Can not figure out how to do that even!!
ReplyDeleteHey Devlin,
ReplyDeleteBeing a Vista sucker (I mean user) I'm having problems with Step 2 also.
Like others I tried doing it without opening the file as Administrator (The reason is I don't see any choices to open it as an Administrator).
How do we open this as an Administrator so we can actually save "127.0.0.1 iesnare.com www.iesnare.com mpsnare.iesnare.com ci-mpsnare.iovation.com" in there?
Thanks
Good till step 3 , then get a message back from command prompt stating ( pingiesnare.com ) is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. I sure don't want zynga spyware running or any other for that matter , is there a way to resolve this ?.. it is windows XP from a 1995' desktop cpu, steps 1 & 2 both worked.
ReplyDeletepingiesnare.com isn't a valid command.. you need to have a space in the middle.. ping iesnare.com.. you are sending a ping command to the site iesnare.com..
ReplyDeleteyou need to right click the file and open the hosts file as administrator, if you arent seeing that option, hold down the left shift button on the keyboard and right click the hosts file, you should then see the option to open as administrator or "run as."
ReplyDeleteThere, I added a section for mac users, now mind you I don't have a mac to test it but the principle is all the same and i verified the instructions with multiple sites..
ReplyDeleteI also adjusted the page layout/font sizes and added bulletin marks so it should be easier to read now! Enjoy!
wont they read this and find another way to catch everyone ?
ReplyDeleteso what. if they want to ban everybody, so be it..it's their lost..
ReplyDeleteI get to open the host file by right clicking and posting the script but it won't save. I don't seem to be able to open as the administrator, its all so clear and I am frustrated I can't save it :(
ReplyDeleteTry to hold down the left shift button on the keyboard and then right click the hosts file, you should then see the option to open as administrator or "run as."
ReplyDeleteNo, I am having same problem as others, I am the administrator for this computer, searched help and everything but can't work it out. Tried the shift button and still won't let me save. No mention of seeking administrator permission :((( I wish I could do it FFS!!! arghhh lol. I do appreciate it though, just want to actually do it.
ReplyDeleteError message
ReplyDeletecannot create the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file.
There is a big difference between your user having administrator privileges and opening a file as administrator so you can edit restricted files (Especially in the newer Operating Systems). The instructions can't get any simpler or clearer. If you are using XP and aren't logged in as administrator you hold shift, right click the file and click run as.. vista or 7 you right click and open as administrator. Then make your changes and save.
ReplyDeleteFor some XP users the option to "run as.." doesn't show up on the file itself so I provided more information above to help you out.
ReplyDeleteCan you explain the purpose of step 3? Pinging a website only proves you are 1) connected to an Internet gateway and 2) the website is up; so, why?
ReplyDeleteAlso, how are these sites getting past firewalls? My hosts are clean btw.
they are mostly targeting large accounts with groups that sell weapons armor etc. as they call it the big fish. why? cuz these ppl are making money off their site. i run scripts but have never had a problem in the past.
ReplyDeleteis there any problem with using brawler and stream helper? I hardly use anything else, but I set the timer on 1-2.. is that ok? :P
ReplyDelete@Don Masterflash: That's too low a delay. Set it for 3-6 as I do and you won't have any problems.
ReplyDelete@guy the purpose of the ping, like i said is to verify the settings, what we did was setup a redirect command in your hosts file, anything that tries to access any of those sites listed in the hosts file are pointing to 127.0.0.1 which is your loopback address. In other words, it now just connects back to itself instead of the site intended.
ReplyDeleteAnd they can get past your firewall because you allow your browsers to get past your firewall.. It's all part of whatever browser you use and setting up the hosts file like that is the best way to disable that specific "tracking software".
The only other way is to completely disable or uninstall flash all together, and then you cant play any games.. or pretty much enjoy the internet at all :P
windows 7 microsoft have taken even more control from the user. I had the same issue trying to save the modified file. even when you have admin rights the only way i found to do it was to use advanced permissions to first take ownership of the folder, then change the permissions to full control and/or allow write. then I could save the file and the ping test worked. If you arent familiar with setting permissions this could be tricky. it took me 5 attempts and i am used to permissions etc on our system at work server + xp computers. windows 7 is a bitch in this regard but i did figure out in the end
ReplyDeleteanother issue may be overuse. even with a delay of say 6 seconds if you re executing a command exactly every 6 seconds for say 5 hours that is pretty humanly impossible. use a reasonable delay and run the bm for up to maybe an hour. stop. use it again in an hour or two's time for a short period again. less likely to be picked up by zynga then imho
ReplyDeletethats the points of the variable timing, you set between 2 times to avoid that concern.
ReplyDeleteIMHO, the folks at Zynga have enough to do to keep their games up-to-date and continually bring out new stuff. I don't believe they have manpower and time to hunt down script-users (and basically no interest to cut back their DAU/MAU rates that way). I'm not a server specialist or network insider, but is it possible that Mafia Wars currently runs more fast and smoothly? To me it seems so. Would be interesting to measure server loads. Maybe that's one good idea behind the warnings.
ReplyDeleteZynga's operation is huge.. they definately have the manpower to do so. But the systems that pick up on suspicious activity are automated. And the fact that people can report users for them is another thing. Just be cautious and use common sense when using scripts.
ReplyDeleteFun part about this is like so many, come from era of pinball machines. The rate I can click the mouse button looks like a bot. They have no idea, no matter the hooks they place in code or pattern generators they have, they do not sit behind me.
ReplyDeleteI use 2 scripts: switch and chucker.
If that is unfair advantage, then Zynga needs to get a life, away from their script kiddy programmers and capacity planning idiots who better remember the folks who made them who they are.
When you create formulations to drive attacks, then the playing field is definitely not even, especially when you've created the variety of items under the several classes of players they have.
If they take it this serious, it is no wonder folks who play the game take it so serious. Lighten up big 'Z', it is a game after all...
we all made you the way you are, we can do something else too!
-KB
Thank you very much for your efforts and caring :)
ReplyDeleteMuch appreciated - Thanks
ReplyDeleteLeonardo
I am admin on my computer, and there is only the one account, but as I've learned before, there is a "hidden" admin account, which showed up as an option when trying this. I could not edit as myself, nor could I log on the other admin account, so instead I just manually went into the windows directory to system32/drivers/etc, and opened "host" with notepad and successfully followed the steps and test that way. thanks for the info!
ReplyDeleteGreat instructions. I followed them. It worked. Thanks a bunch
ReplyDeleteTYVM...been wondering how to get around the "script police"...
ReplyDeleteI followed all steps but first had to right click hosts select properties uncheck read only. I was then able to save. Thanks
ReplyDeleteFollowed everything to the t....thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteI keep getting, request timed out.
ReplyDeletehi guys i got this on windows 7 is this any good am i safe now :):):):):)

No "Ping statistics for 74.121.28.139:
ReplyDeletePackets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss)" is not correct. I got same message until i right clicked host unchecked read only and then followed steps.
Thanks for the indications!! They seem to work fine for me
ReplyDeleteHowever, I have a doubt: is this a one-time process or we have to do it every day?
Thanks
It is a one time process for the most part.. Once you have added the information to the hosts files iesnare can be installed and you may repeat step 1 to remove it again. But even if installed it is crippled to the point it con not function anymore.
ReplyDelete@ Anonymous with ping issue. Your settings aren't being save for one thing, it should be redirecting to 127.0.0.1. And do you have a firewall or anything, that would be why it is not able to return a ping. But make sure you are following the steps to open the file as administrator and once you save it re-open the file to verify the changes you made are there.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much... the Notepad was the difference...wordpad won´t let you save it with the new text...
ReplyDeleteyou rock good looking out for us and THANK YOU
ReplyDeleteI did all the steps for windows & got this as my results.....

no that hasn't worked. Where it is saying 74.121.28.159 is actually the iesnare site. it should be saying 127.0.0.1 it seems like the hosts file isn't being saved. Make sure you are opening the file as an administrator. You can't just be logged in as a user with administrator privileges. Read the instructions above to ensure you are opening notepad as administrator and then after saving the file, re open it and verify that the changes WERE actually saved. If they are and you are still getting that ping result, restart the computer. It might not be updating on the fly like it's supposed to. leme know if that works..
ReplyDeleteIm not very computer literate but was easy as pie Thanks for the info YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!
ReplyDeleteAt step 3 my pings? are not being "returned." All four say "request timed out." At the end it says "0 returned" instead of "4." What does this mean? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Thanks for the great tips!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info. I have Windows 7, followed your instructions to the letter and your instructions were spot on.
